Hello, I’m Michaela, a proofreader from the South West of England with a keen eye for detail and a passion for clear, polished writing. My fascination for proofreading stemmed years ago from previous jobs but came to fruition in 2020. I then began my training and became a qualified proofreader in August 2023. I truly enjoy refining words and helping others communicate their ideas effectively. You may think that a proofreader detects punctuation and spelling errors only, and although this is a large part of the work, it is not everything we do. A proofreader's role is to ensure that a piece of material is fit for publication. We ensure text is accurate and coherent and ensure readability.
A high percentage of what you see online, in shops or read in books has gone through a level of proofreading. The first check of a document is typically performed by the person who produced the material, however, it is easy for the author to miss obvious mistakes, which is where professional proofreaders come in.
